You’ve probably noticed that CBD has become a hot topic in the health industry and has been popping up in the pet world as well. You may have a few questions about CBD like, “With so many options out there, how do I know what to choose? Or, “Is CBD right for my dog or cat?”
First, let’s take a look at the benefits CBD may be able to provide for our pets. Our canine and feline friends possess the same naturally-occurring endocannabinoid system that humans do. With this in mind, it’s no wonder CBD may provide relief for pets with any of these medical conditions:
• Arthritis
• Muscle Pain
• Chronic Pain Syndromes
• Stress and Anxiety
• Psoriasis
• Epilepsy & Seizures
• High Blood Pressure
• Tumors
• IBS
• Nausea
• Diabetes
• Glaucoma
If your pet is not suffering from long term illnesses, there are still many amazing benefits for your pets. Other possible health benefits include:
• Muscle Relaxant
• Improved Heart Health
• Improved Circulation
• Improved Appetite
• Powerful Antioxidant
• Nerve Damage Prevention
• Improved Sleep Patterns
• Anticarcinogen
• Supports Healthy Immune System
• Powerful Neuro-Protectant
Now let’s answer a few frequently asked questions we get in our pet stores. If you have more specific questions, we’d love to hear them. Our team is ready to provide you with the knowledge needed to make an informed decision.
1.) What is the difference between Full Spectrum, Broad Spectrum, and Isolates?
Full-spectrum CBD products contain a full range of cannabinoids. In accordance with the law, full-spectrum CBD products in Texas must contain less than 0.3% THC. Broad spectrum products are made of several types of cannabinoids and terpenes. These products test at or around zero THC. Isolate products will generally be showcased as being 99+% “pure CBD”. Usually, these products will have nothing but CBD in them.
2.) What do I look for when choosing a CBD product for my pet?
Your pet’s safety is always #1, so be sure the company you are purchasing from provides third-party testing to show exactly what’s in the product. Next look at the ingredients. Look for Cannabidiol (CBD), not just hemp oil. In short, hemp oil contains little to no CBD because it comes from hemp seeds, not the leaves, flower or stalk where CBD is found.
3.) When should I give CBD to my pet when traveling or before a loud event (example New Years fireworks)?
For pets that get upset during travel, grooming, or boarding, CBD may be able to help keep them calm during their adventure. For best results we recommend you start administering the CBD 7 -10 days prior. CBD does not act like a sedative, it just helps your pet stay calm. If your dog gets nervous or anxious during loud events, like fireworks or thunderstorms, CBD can provide some relief for their anxiety.
4.) How should I give my pet the tincture?
You know your pet’s best. You can add it to any food or freeze dried treat, but be sure your pet eats it all. Some people will put the tincture directly in their pet’s mouth. Please note: We do not recommend heating the oil because at high heat it loses its strength.
5.) How much does my pet need to take?
The first chart illustrates the dosage for Act Rite CBD tinctures and the second chart illustrates the Act Rite CBD treats. They recommend CBD treats for pets between 2lbs – 50lbs. For pets 50lbs or more, they recommend the tinctures. Each company’s dosage will differ since there are no set guidelines at this time for CBD. No matter which brand you choose, remember to start low and work up the dosage as needed until you find what works best for your pet and their condition.
